Our Practice

Robert Turcios Jr., O. D.

Optometrist Dr. Robert Turcios, Jr. is a fifth-generation Californian who was born in San Francisco and grew up in the east bay city of El Cerrito. He attended St. David’s Elementary School and Salesian High School in Richmond, where he played football, baseball and basketball. He enrolled at the University of California at Berkeley and continued his baseball career while obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiological Optics. Since Optometry was in his blood (his father was an optometrist and professor at Cal), he chose to attend the top-ranked U.C. Berkeley School of Optometry, where he obtained the Doctorate of Optometry degree in 1980, graduating first in his class. After graduation, he practiced optometry with his father, and in 1984 began his own practice in Pleasant Hill. In addition to offering general eyecare, Dr. Turcios takes special interest in the management and treatment of “lazy-eye” in children, the fitting of specialty contact lenses such as toric and bifocal lenses, the treatment of ocular surface disease, and the pre-and post-op management of laser eye surgery patients. He has authored numerous articles on these topics and has been a vision consultant to many Bay Area corporations. His wife of twenty-seven years, Janet, is the office manger, and they have three daughters who have attended Cal, Carondelet High School and Christ the King Elementary School where Dr. Turcios and his family are parishioners. He is active in the community as a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary club, and has coached various CYO sports. His hobbies include golf, skiing, motor sports and rooting for all Cal athletics, as well as tinkering with his ZR-1 Corvette. He welcomes all new patients and sincerely strives to offer the best eyecare possible in a friendly, personal, professional environment.
